Mrs. Panka

Welcome to 6th Grade
Science and Social Studies
with Mrs. Panka*
(*pronounced like pain-kah)

Let me tell you a little about myself.  I taught in California for over 5 years.  Then my husband, who was born here in Casa Grande, was stationed back in Arizona.  I stayed at home with our children for 10 years until they both went into school.  I've been now teaching in Casa Grande, Arizona for over 6 years.  I have a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction.  I am certified to teach Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.  I love to learn and teach hands-on, so enough about me, let's get you ready for the new school year.

The transition from elementary to middle school can be a big challenge for many students.  Helping your child to stay organized and keep track of their grades from their multiple classes will make a big difference.  Keep track of their grades with PowerSchool and don't be afraid to ask questions.  I recommend parents and guardians become familiar with the different teachers and their expectations. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have.  Thank you for visiting my webpage.  Please check back often as I plan on updating frequently.  My calendar will be updated daily with our assignments.

There are some subheadings under some links
See below for where to find subheading categories

Calendar: What we do everyday.  Click on the day to see our learning objective, essential question, and assignments for that day.

Photo Gallery: I will post some examples of great work here throughout the year.

Useful Links: Other websites are listed by subject and quarter so you can find out more information or research.  Keep checking back for updates.

Contact Me:  This is a quick way to send me an email.  I find emails are a faster way of communicating.  It's a bit more difficult to find a quiet, private time for phone calls during the day.

Course Outlines and Expectations:  What we are learning about this year.  The Expectations are found in the Rules and Procedures subheading links.

Rules: How we stay civilized and get along. You must click on the Course Outlines and Expectations link for this to show up on the scroll to the left.

Procedures: How we do every day things and stay organized with multiple classes learning two subjects.  You must click on the Course Outlines and Expectations link for this to show up on the scroll to the left.

Supplies Needed for Classes: Please make sure you have all necessary supplies for class by Monday, August 13th.

Donations Requested per Quarter:  Under the link of Supplies Needed is my donations request page.  Click on Supplies Needed for Classes for this link to pop up.  I will update this per quarter.  Supplies will be deleted or crossed off if I am  no longer in need of them.  I will try to give you dates when needed by when possible.

Grading Scales and Points: This explains how I score assignments and how it correlates with CGESD's standards-based grading (FAME) from elementary.  For more information about assignments, see below.

Missed, Late, or Incomplete Work:  What to do if you are absent or forgot to turn work in or you didn't finish it when before it's due.

Retakes and Revisions of Low Scores:  What to do if you don't like the grade you got on a assignment or test
