If your name is identified in ALL CAPS this means you have received your paper with comments. At that time you can redo or take the grade.  You can keep redoing until content.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is hard to believe that your son or daughter (perhaps even both) is about to start the last year of their middle school experience.  I have been assigned as their last language arts teacher before they enter their high school of choice. Many of the students on our Villago Academy will be moving on to high school in honors classes, and even pre Advance Placement classes. In order to get the students ready for this, I am asking for your assistance this summer,

Many of the students forget about their academics for the summer and take the time off.  I need for you to help me curb this trend.  I am asking that all student enrolled in the academy read two books over the summer and submit a book report.  The book report should be submitted electronically to or by the last day of each month.  This will ensure that students do not lose their reading and writing skills in the time we have off during the summer months.

Students will get to choose their own books.  These books can include any of the following choices, but not limited to these:

  • Hunger Games Series
  • Twilight Series
  • Divergent Series
  • The Maze Runner Series
  • Percy Jackson Series
  • Artemis Fowl Series
  • Mortal Instruments Series
  • House of Night Series
  • Lord of the Rings Series
  • The Uglies Series
  • The Cinder Series
  • The Fifth Wave Series

Authors of some great books:

  • John Green
  • Gary Paulson
  • Lois Lowry
  • Gary Soto
  • James Patterson
  • Christopher Paolini
  • Markus Zusak
  • Jane Yolen
  • Rick Riordan
  • Maya Angelou
  • Louisa May Alcott

The format of the book report should include the five major components of plot, (3 paragraphs) and evidence-based claim paragraphs for the theme and literary conflict. (1 paragraph each) Finally, a short paragraph on your recommendation/opinion of the book. It should be noted that your student should not reread a book they have already read.  This defeats the purpose. I can be reached via school email, which I will check twice a week, Monday and Thursday. I can also be reached via cell phone at 520-560-6599.  If you have any questions, please contact me. Students and parents I have had before, know that contacting me is NEVER a bother. I look forward to working with you and your child more closely in August.
